Republicans want to control drug costs and Democrats see that drug prices are up. Who has a point?
Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume said on Fox News Sunday that the price increase of Humira, an injectable rheumatoid arthritis medication, will save about half a trillion dollars over 10 years, a reduction that some say will help the country save healthcare costs overall.
However, Democratic lawmakers see an opposing argument.
“If you say if people are actually saving the trillion dollars that Republicans think they’re going to save on medicine over the next decade, I think you’ll hear Democratic members of Congress say why aren’t we actually saving this money because we are increasing the cost of healthcare? Is this intended to recoup the money saved when American people have to pay more for the same prescription drugs that the rest of the world pays less money for,” Hume said.
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said on ABC’s This Week that Republicans think “that if the people have to pay more for medication they can hide it.”
